I try to never take a morning on Block Island for granted. My ideal morning routine is to be out on my paddle-board before sunrise, watch the sun come up over the water, paddle the perimeter of Great Salt Pond and be back before my wife and daughter are up.
On the days when the conditions aren't great, I'll grab my camera and take an island cruise looking for shots in the early morning light. The morning fog on the island is amazing just before the first light of the day kills it...
I was told that there may be a theme starting here...

My wife's grandparents recently passed away and the family has decided to sell their house on Block Island, RI. It was featured as the House of the Day on the Wall Street Journal website today. After realizing that my plan for a "stars over the salt flats" shot was going to be severely effected by the full moon, I went in search of more middle of nowhere shots and a good moonrise vantage point. I drove over a mountain pass and came upon the most amazing valley with a massive pyramid like mountain in the distance. I kept driving down the road until it turned to gravel at a barb wire fence. Turns out that the fence was the Utah/Nevada border and apparently Nevada doesn't have enough taxes from gambling to pave all their roads that run through every valley. I guess the fact that the road turned to gravel was one of the reasons I didn't see another person for the six hours I spent there.
I had found a valley all to myself... and some coyotes... and some strange looking deer...

A couple firsts. First blog post, first time I put up a photo I took of myself. Recently went to Wyoming for a shoot then took off in search of the middle of nowhere. Found out that there are a few middle of nowheres in WY, UT, and NV.
